Law360, New York (September 12, 2006, 12:00 AM ET) -- Light emitting diode (LED) maker Cree Inc. and Boston University sued California-based LED-company Bridgelux on Monday, complaining that Bridgelux infringed two of their patents in producing semiconductors.
The patents are for a new LED with light extraction structures attached to increase its efficiency, and a process for making a highly insulated one-layered crystal film using gallium nitride-based buffer technology. Cree owns the patent for the LED prototype, and Boston University owns the patent for the insulated crystal film, of which Cree is the only licensee....
