Ex-Va. Lawmaker Wants New Trial On Bribery Charges

Law360, New York (May 26, 2011, 7:19 PM ET) -- A former Virginia lawmaker facing up to 30 years in prison for allegedly trading state money for a university job on Wednesday asked for a new trial on bribery and extortion charges.

In a motion filed in federal court in Richmond, Va., Phillip A. Hamilton said the conviction should be overturned because the court allowed for the admission of communications between Hamilton and his wife that were privileged.
