DOJ Ends Antitrust Case Over Va. Poultry Plant Deal

Law360, New York (June 23, 2011, 3:04 PM ET) -- The U.S. Department of Justice on Thursday dropped its antitrust suit challenging George's Inc.'s purchase of a Tyson Foods Inc. chicken processing plant in Virginia after George's promised to make facility changes that would boost demand for local poultry farmers.

Under the terms of the proposed deal, which still requires court approval, George's would make capital improvements at one of its two plants in the Shenandoah Valley to increase its processing capacity, which the DOJ said would give the company incentive to increase its local poultry...
