Swatch Can't Stop Rival From Using 'Swap' Mark, Judge Says

Law360, New York (August 17, 2012, 8:12 PM ET) -- A Virginia federal judge handed Swatch SA a loss Thursday in its case seeking to stop a Louisiana company from using the “Swap” trademark on watch faces and bands, upholding a U.S. Patent and Trademark Office board's decision to shoot down Swatch's challenge.

U.S. District Judge Liam O'Grady affirmed the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board's February 2011 rejection of Swatch's opposition to an application by Beehive Wholesale LLC's founder for the “Swap” mark, and found in favor of Beehive on the other five counts Swatch leveled....
