EU Lawmakers Reach Deal On Telecom Reform

Law360, New York (November 05, 2009, 3:42 PM ET) -- Negotiators from the European Parliament and the European Union's Council of Ministers have reached a deal on a controversial legislative provision to protect Internet freedom within the 27-member bloc, paving the way for a larger telecommunications reform package to take effect in early 2010.

Following "intense" negotiations mediated by the European Commission, representatives from the parliament and the council agreed in the early hours of Thursday morning to include the measure, which provides strong safeguards for Internet users' rights to online access.
