Liability Verdict In $300M Philip Morris Suit To Be Cut

Law360, New York (February 09, 2010, 3:02 PM ET) -- A Florida state judge has announced that he intends to reduce a $300 million verdict levied against Philip Morris USA Inc. by a jury that found the company legally responsible for an ex-smoker's emphysema.

Broward County Circuit Judge Jeffrey Streitfeld told the parties during a hearing Friday that it was his intention to trim what he viewed as an excessive jury award that included $56 million in compensatory damages and $244 million in punitive damages.
