US Tries To Hang On To Ex-Sen. Bruno Conviction

Law360, New York (June 17, 2011, 6:01 PM ET) -- Second Circuit judges grilled federal prosecutors on Friday over their efforts to seek a new trial for former New York State Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno despite a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling potentially knocking out his corruption conviction.

“Why shouldn't you be stuck with the case you chose to try?” Circuit Judge Barrington Parker asked assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth C. Coombe as she argued that the case could have easily withstood the Supreme Court decision if it had simply been drafted differently.
