Harrisburg Mayor, Pa. Blast Ch. 9 Petition

Law360, New York (October 14, 2011, 1:12 PM ET) -- The mayor of Harrisburg, Pa., and the state government on Friday asked a bankruptcy judge to dismiss a Chapter 9 petition filed on behalf of the capital city earlier in the week, saying it was filed without authorization and in violation of state law.

Harrisburg Mayor Linda D. Thompson accused the city council — which voted 4-3 on Oct. 11 in favor of Chapter 9 municipal bankruptcy to thwart a looming state takeover — of playing politics with the bankruptcy proceedings and grossly overstepping its authority....
