Philip Morris, RJR Score Another Engle Win In Fla.

Law360, Washington (October 20, 2011, 5:42 PM ET) -- A Florida state jury on Thursday found for Philip Morris USA Inc. and R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. in a so-called Engle progeny case filed on behalf of a longtime smoker alleging the tobacco companies made defective and unreasonably dangerous cigarettes.

The case, filed by Toni Junious as representative of the estate of Annie Ingraham, was one of thousands initiated after a 2006 Florida Supreme Court decision that overturned a $145 billion verdict in a class action brought by Howard Engle. The ruling broke apart the class,...
