NY Panel Clears Bill To Lift Rebate Red Tape

Law360, New York (April 30, 2012, 4:18 PM ET) -- The New York State Senate's Consumer Protection Committee approved legislation Monday to ban retailers from promising rebates and then forcing customers to mail for them, but the move came after a far stronger bill was softened.

The current bill, S. 6815 sponsored by state Sen. Mark Grisanti, R-Buffalo, applies to rebates offered "solely by a retail establishment" and does not cover rebates offered by manufacturers.
