9th Circ. Blocks Arizona's New Late-Term Abortion Ban

Law360, New York (August 01, 2012, 7:50 PM ET) -- The Ninth Circuit on Wednesday blocked enforcement of a new Arizona law criminalizing abortions performed after the 20th week of pregnancy unless a medical emergency exists and said it would conduct a fast-track review of the controversial policy.

The injunction, granted by a three-judge panel in response to an American Civil Liberties Union lawsuit, came just one day before the law was set to take effect and only two days after a district judge upheld the late-term abortion ban as constitutional. The appeals court signaled it...
