UK AI copyright consultation shows vast majority want licenses in all cases

( December 15, 2025, 13:08 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The vast majority of respondents to a UK consultation on copyright and the training of AI models want to strengthen the copyright regime and require licensing in all cases, while a tiny minority favored the government's proposal. The results of the consultation carried out in December 2024 to February 2025 showed 88 percent of 10,112 online survey responses chose the option to strengthen copyright protections and only 3 percent chose the government’s preference of a data mining exception where rights holders would have to actively opt out, the results showed on Monday. The results are part of a progress report on the government’s processing of the consultation, which attracted a total of 11,500 responses, with a final report due in March. Report attached:...
