Trump's US TikTok divestiture deal challenged in new suit
By Mike Swift ( March 5, 2026, 23:24 GMT | Insight) -- In a challenge to the deal President Trump brokered to divest the US operations of TikTok from its Chinese parent ByteDance, two Silicon Valley tech investors have petitioned a US appeals court to find that the deal violates the Protecting Americans From Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act. The petitioners say Trump's deal flouts the law by allowing China-owned ByteDance to have ongoing “operational relationship" with the US operations of TikTok, noting that "ByteDance would continue to own the app’s essential recommendation algorithm, and would license it to the new American TikTok entity."The divestment of TikTok’s US operations from its Chinese parent brokered by President Trump is a “relentless violation” of the federal law designed to protect US privacy and national security interests, two tech industry shareholders told a federal appeals court Thursday in a suit challenging the deal. ...
