ESPN Strikes $5.6B Deal For College Football Playoff

Law360, New York (November 21, 2012, 5:52 PM EST) -- Sports media giant ESPN Inc. said Wednesday it had snapped up the rights to televise college football's new four-team playoff format for the first 12 years of its existence, signing a deal reportedly worth more than $5.6 billion in total.

The sports media titan said it had reached an agreement with Bowl Championship Series Executive Director Bill Hancock, who also will run the still-to-be-formed organization that will operate the four-team playoff.
