Marine Base 'Godfather' Cops To Contract Bribery Charges

Law360, Washington (February 4, 2014, 7:16 PM EST) -- A U.S. Department of Defense official who dubbed himself the "Godfather" of Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in San Diego has pled guilty along with six federal contractors for participating in a bribery and kickbacks scheme tied to military construction contracts, federal prosecutors said Friday.

Natividad Lara Cervantes, 64, pled guilty in California federal court to using his position as supervisor for construction and service contracts to extort bribes from businesses seeking to do work at Camp Pendleton, prosecutors said in a statement.
