Segway Claims 'Hoverboards' Rip Off Patented Technology

By Ryan Davis (September 14, 2015, 7:47 PM EDT) -- Segway Inc., maker of battery-powered vehicles, filed a patent suit Friday against Inventist Inc., which sells a self-balancing scooter called Hovertrax that has recently been promoted by celebrities and compared to the hoverboards in the movie "Back To The Future Part II."

The suit, filed in the District of Delaware, claims that Inventist infringes five Segway patents for a personal transporter with a balance monitor and related features. In addition to Hovertrax, the suit also accuses Inventist of selling another infringing product, a self-balancing unicycle called Solowheel.
