Spikes In VW Stock Spur German Regulator Probe

Law360, New York (October 29, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Germany's financial watchdog BaFin launched an official probe Wednesday into Volkswagen AG's recent stock spikes, noting that VW's shares jumped 82 percent Tuesday only to fall sharply the next day after major shareholder Porsche AG announced it would sell some options.

BaFin spokeswoman Anja Engelland told the Associated Press that the regulator was looking into possible market manipulation. But she declined to say whether or not the probe was focusing on Porsche, AP reported.
