'Alarming' Arsenic Levels Found In Tenn. Water

Law360, New York (February 3, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- Independent sampling of surface water in the wake of the Dec. 22 rupture of a Tennessee Valley Authority dam that unleashed an avalanche of coal-ash sludge has revealed "alarming" levels of arsenic and other toxins, according to environmental watchdogs.

On Monday, the Environmental Integrity Project and United Mountain Defense released preliminary test results for water samples taken in the weeks after the rupture at the TVA Kingston Fossil Plant, which released more than a billion gallons of sludge covering several hundred acres.
