FDA Seizes Infusion Pumps Amid Safety Fears

Law360, New York (August 28, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- U.S. Marshals seized $1.8 million worth of Alaris infusion pumps made by Cardinal Health Inc. Friday after the company failed to heed letters warnings of safety violations from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The FDA said Monday that after getting a search warrant, it seized approximately 1,300 units of Alaris Signature Edition Gold infusion pumps. The pumps have a design defect called “key bounce” that could cause patients to receive more medicine than intended, according to the FDA.
