Deakins Jr. is a founding member and chairman emeritus of Ogletree Deakins Nash Smoak & Stewart PC, and since beginning his career he has specialized in labor relations and employment law. For example, he represented the city and county of Honolulu in negotiating a project labor agreement with the Building Trades Unions for the $5 billion rail project in Honolulu. He has also negotiated numerous other agreements under the National Labor Relations Act and the Railway Labor Act. Deakins also has participated in the conduct of mock jury trials for the American Bar Association throughout the United States.
