University Immune But IPR Can Continue Against Toyota

Law360, New York (July 14, 2017, 7:15 PM EDT) -- Citing sovereign immunity, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board dismissed the University of Minnesota from an inter partes review on Thursday but said the proceeding could continue against Toyota, which co-owns the challenged patent.

The decision came in a challenge that Reactive Surfaces Ltd. LLP brought in January against a patent that covers a method for making anti-fingerprint coatings that can be used to protect cell phone screens and other electronic devices.
