CFPB Enforcement Actions Could Guide Debt Collection Rules

By Evan Weinberger (July 26, 2016, 9:22 PM EDT) -- The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is expected to release a detailed road map on new rules for the debt collection industry Thursday, and experts say the recent string of bureau enforcement actions against collectors, banks and law firms should serve as a guide for how that map will look.

Both consumer advocates and attorneys who represent the industry say that the bureau is likely to provide an outline of its thinking on rules for the sprawling debt collection industry at a public hearing to be held in Sacramento, California.
