Advocates Want Migrant Detention, Enforcement Funds Cut

Law360 (September 13, 2019, 9:39 PM EDT) -- The American Immigration Lawyers Association, American Civil Liberties Union and more than 100 other groups have urged congressional leaders to slash funding for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and block the agency from diverting federal cash for President Donald Trump's hardline immigration policies.

The groups asked lawmakers in a letter on Thursday to cut spending for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Customs and Border Protection — including funding for immigration detention and border agents — and end DHS' ability to divert funds for detention and enforcement.
