Caixa appeal in lottery games probe partially granted by Brazil's CADE

( May 30, 2025, 10:50 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Sumarry: CAIXA Econômica Federal filed a special appeal with the Brazilian competition authority that aims to clarify, supplement, or correct aspects of a previous decision in an ongoing antitrust investigation. The appeal contests the rejection of preliminary objections and raises concerns about procedural omissions, including the extended duration of the investigation, speculative accusations, and the reversal of the burden of proof. The Administrative Council for Economic Defense, or CADE, dismissed these points, stating they reflected disagreement rather than flaws in the decision, but it acknowledged an omission regarding CAIXA’s request to present witness testimony. As a result, CADE granted the bank five days to submit the names of up to three witnesses, with hearings to be held in Brasília.See attached file....
