US judge blocks enforcement of Georgia social media parental consent law

( June 26, 2025, 22:57 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A US federal judge granted a preliminary injunction blocking enforcement of the Protecting Georgia’s Children on Social Media Act, a law that requires age verification for all users of social media platforms as well as parental consent for minors under 16 to open accounts. US District Judge Amy Totenberg found the law "curbs the speech rights of Georgia’s youth while imposing an immense, potentially intrusive burden on all Georgians who wish to engage in the most central computerized public fora of the twenty-first century. This cannot comport with the free flow of information the First Amendment protects."See attached opinion....
