The court drew a key distinction between an AI company such as Perplexity AI accessing a website and a user deploying an AI tool to do it for them. The ruling could give AI developers a powerful incentive to build agents that operate through users’ browsers and devices rather than directly accessing websites from company servers.Amazon and other online retailers could have a harder time using anti-hacking statutes to block user-deployed AI agents simply because they don’t want them on their websites....
