South Korea hails conclusion of US deals covering trade, AI, shipbuilding

In a televised address to the nation, Lee said the bilateral alliance “has evolved and deepened into a true future-oriented, strategic, comprehensive alliance encompassing security, the economy and advanced technology,” adding that “the door to a mutual alliance renaissance has been thrown wide open.” “Just as the US once helped the Republic of Korea, now Korea will take part in rebuilding the core industries of its ally, the US,” Lee said, referring to South Korea’s agreement to invest in shipbuilding and other sectors in the US in exchange for lowering the reciprocal tariff rate on imports from South Korea from the initially announced level of 25 percent.The statement, in Korean, and the fact sheet are attached....
