The European Commission’s proposed EU Kids Act would introduce age limits for accessing social media, including a ban for under-13s, restricted use between 13 and 15, and a minimum age of 15 for opening an account. The planned legislation would also focus on safety-by-design and harmful features, with obligations extending beyond social-media and video-sharing platforms to online games, app stores, operating systems, AI companions and general conversational chatbots.
