Meta’s appeal against EU privacy watchdogs’ ‘consent or pay’ opinion rejected

The US tech giant had asked the EU’s lower-tier General Court to annul the EDPB’s opinion. Companies using the model offer their users the choice between either accepting data processing and targeted ads, or paying a fee to avoid them. In an order published today, the General Court said the opinion “does not produce binding legal effects vis-à-vis third parties.” The court said Meta's appeal is “dismissed as, in part, inadmissible and, in part, manifestly lacking any foundation in law.”The General Court order follows:...
