South Korean regulator targets employment, culture in next phase of MyData rollout

( June 23, 2025, 07:44 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s privacy regulator is moving to expand the MyData initiative into the employment and cultural sectors as part of a broader effort to strengthen individuals’ control over their personal data. The Personal Information Protection Commission said it will hold stakeholder meetings on June 23 and 26 to discuss data portability standards in these fields, following earlier consultations on education. The MyData program initially targets 10 priority areas — healthcare, telecoms, energy, transportation, education, employment, real estate, welfare, retail and leisure — with the regulator conducting discussions on feasibility, data flows and on-the-ground challenges. Based on the meetings and additional written feedback, it plans to revise the enforcement decree of the Personal Information Protection Act in the second half of the year to finalize rules on eligible data holders and transferrable information in the education, employment and cultural sectors.The statement, in Korean, is attached....
