No regulatory action over UK government Afghan data breach, privacy watchdog says

( July 15, 2025, 15:27 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The UK government’s handling of a 2022 data breach involving Afghan relocation applicants will not be subject to regulatory action by the national privacy watchdog, it said in a statement today. The Information Commissioner’s Office described the incident as “unacceptable” and “deeply regrettable” as it had placed thousands of vulnerable people at risk. But the watchdog said it had supported and scrutinized the Ministry of Defence’s internal investigation and was satisfied that steps taken by the department mean that "no further regulatory action is required at this time in this case.”Statement follows....
