Japanese non-life insurer Sompo to acquire Aspen Insurance Holdings for $3.5 billion

The deal is valued at approximately $3.7 billion. Sompo aims to expand its global operations by acquiring Aspen, which specializes in complex specialty lines such as cyber, credit and political risks, along with reinsurance businesses across the Americas, the UK, Europe and the Asia Pacific. The Tokyo-based company expects to complete the deal in the first half of 2026, pending customary closing conditions, including antitrust and insurance regulatory approvals, relevant consents and the expiration of applicable waiting periods.
