Cyprus' failure to comply with EU waste rules ends up in top court

( May 7, 2025, 12:36 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Cyprus faces a lawsuit in front of the EU's top court for failing to comply with EU rules on waste. The Landfill Directive sets requirements for landfills to prevent adverse effects on human health, water, soil and air. In 2013, the court ruled that two landfills in Cyprus did not comply with the Landfill Directive. Although Cyprus ceased their operations, it did not meet other requirements under EU law. The commission has decided to refer the case back to the EU's top court, seeking the imposition of financial sanctions.Statement follows....
