Ukraine borrows EUR500 million for emergency winter gas purchase

( August 13, 2025, 12:48 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Ukraine will borrow 500 million euros (around $580 million) from the EU to purchase emergency gas supplies for the winter season, the European Commission said in a statement today. The two-year loan stems from a deal between the commission and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, under which the commission will guarantee 90 percent of the loan via the EU’s Ukraine Investment Framework. The funding will help Ukraine replenish gas reserves depleted by Russia's attacks on the production and processing facilities of state-owned energy company Naftogaz, the commission said.Full statement follows:...
