Governments’ fossil-fuel plans diverge further from climate goals, report finds

( September 22, 2025, 04:02 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The world's governments plan to produce 120 percent of the volume of fossil fuels in 2030 than would be consistent with goals to limit global warming to 1.5°C, according to a report by the Stockholm Environment Institute, Climate Analytics and the International Institute for Sustainable Development. The rise is due to expanded coal and gas production, which will necessitate steeper drop-offs in future usage to meet the UN Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C warming goal, the research institutes said in a statement on Monday. While six of 20 major fossil-fuel producing nations now align domestic plans with net-zero targets, most still plan to expand output, they added. Full press release attached....
