UK car insurers to pay £200m after unfair payouts

( September 19, 2025, 12:52 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: UK car insurers are set to pay £200 million after the Financial Conduct Authority found that they had short-changed 270,000 customers on stolen or written off vehicle claims. The watchdog found in a review last year that in some cases, automatic deductions to payouts were made for assumed pre-existing damage. The FCA said this disadvantaged "careful drivers" who had looked after their vehicles and made it hard for them to buy like-for-like replacements. Statement is attached....
