ZTE battles Samsung to have patent case decided in China

By Douglas Clarke-Williams ( October 28, 2025, 12:50 GMT | Insight) -- ZTE argued Tuesday that its efforts to have a decision on fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory, or FRAND, rates for standard essential patents, or SEPs, decided by a Chinese court did not amount to bad faith. The Chinese company also argued that a UK court's decision in the dispute shouldn't take precedence over a Chinese court's ruling simply because the UK court heard the case first.Shenzhen-based electronics manufacturer ZTE on Tuesday appealed a June decision by a UK court (see here) which said that ZTE would be considered an unwilling licensor if it did not grant Samsung an interim license and found that ZTE had acted in bad faith by attempting to have the issue decided by a Chinese court....
