Chesapeake Energy Reaches $8M Deal On Gas Royalty Suits

Law360 (August 10, 2018, 5:15 PM EDT) -- Chesapeake Energy Inc. has reached a tentative $7.75 million settlement in two proposed class action suits over allegedly inflated costs and fees deducted from leaseholders’ gas royalty payments, according to filings in Pennsylvania federal court Thursday.

The proposed settlement outlined Thursday would end a four-year fight over whether Chesapeake and Access Midstream Partners inflated what they spent on gathering, transporting and marketing the gas when they took those costs out of the royalties they paid Pennsylvania leaseholders.
