Obama Taps OMB Chief Burwell To Lead HHS

Law360, Washington (April 11, 2014, 1:36 PM EDT) -- President Barack Obama on Friday tapped White House Office of Management and Budget Director Sylvia Mathews Burwell to lead the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, following the surprise resignation of outgoing HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.

In a press conference at the White House, the president — flanked by both Sebelius and Burwell — officially confirmed Burwell's nomination, which had been rumored after news of Sebelius stepping down was made public late Thursday, praising both officials while describing the announcement as "bittersweet."
