Turkey-Owned Bank Foots Legal Bill For Zarrab Co-Defendant

Law360, New York (May 18, 2017, 8:13 PM EDT) -- A Turkish bank executive charged in a politically sensitive Iran sanctions case is having his legal bills paid by his state-controlled employer, his lawyer told a New York federal judge on Thursday.

Speaking for his client, Mehmet Hakan Atilla, attorney Victor Rocco of Herrick Feinstein LLP informed the court for the first time that his firm’s bills were being paid by Atilla’s employer, Istanbul-based Turkiye Halk Bankasi AS, also known as Halkbank.
