Status Conference ~Util - Set Deadlines
MINUTE ENTRY for Status Conference held before MJ Eichenholtz on 7/15/2026. Appearance for Plaintiff: Aura Moody, pro se. Appearance for Defendant: Max Nicholas. Status conference held. The Court discussed potential trial dates with the parties. Plaintiff indicates that she is available for both trial dates proposed by the Court. Counsel for Defendants will advise the Court by 7/22/2026 as to whether Defendants are available on the proposed trial dates.
Plaintiff requested that the Court assist her in a search for counsel. While the Court cannot appoint counsel, the Court will send Plaintiff the necessary application to have this case placed on a list of trial-ready cases where a pro se party is seeking pro bono counsel. However, the Court cannot guarantee that Plaintiff will qualify for this list nor that a lawyer will agree to represent Plaintiff in this matter. To that end, Plaintiff should continue her independent search for counsel and cooperate with any attorneys who contact her. It is ultimately up to Plaintiff to decide if an attorney can represent her and on what terms. If Plaintiff is unable to find counsel, the trial will proceed as scheduled with Plaintiff representing herself pro se.
The parties are strongly encouraged to resume their settlement discussions. The parties may submit a joint letter if they believe a referral to mediation or a settlement conference would be productive. (FTR: 2:22 - 2:41) (DC)
