A Texas man who pled guilty to buying up prescription drugs from Medicaid patients and selling them to a distributor as part of a nationwide black market was ordered on Tuesday to pay $30 million in restitution to New York's health program.

The U.S. Department of Justice has charged 48 people over a $500 million Medicaid fraud scheme that diverted and trafficked prescription drugs previously dispensed to New York-area Medicaid patients to a nationwide black market, according to an indictment and criminal complaint unsealed Tuesday.
