A New York federal judge on Wednesday granted $47.65 million in attorneys' fees to the lawyers for employee health and pension funds who reached a $275 million settlement in a consolidated class action accusing Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC of offering misleading mortgage-backed securities to investors.

Employee health and pension funds that launched a consolidated class action in New York federal court accusing Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC of misleading investors in mortgage-backed securities offerings have agreed to a $275 million cash settlement, the plaintiffs' attorneys said Wednesday.

The Second Circuit on Thursday allowed an appeal of a New York judge's refusal to certify a class in parallel cases brought by investors accusing Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC and Residential Capital LLC of misleading them into buying mortgage-backed securities.
