South Carolina on Tuesday joined a growing list of states offering tax relief to residents and businesses by extending tax filing and payment deadlines because of restrictions caused by the novel coronavirus.

The South Carolina Department of Revenue said tax filing and payment deadlines would be postponed until June 1 for anyone who had an obligation from April 1 until that date.

Included are residents and businesses located in the state, with offices in the state or with tax records in the state, and those that use a tax professional whose work may have been disrupted by COVID-19. The tax relief also applies to residents or businesses that may have had an estimated payment due between April 1 and June 1.

All types of taxes are included — income, sales and use and others such as motor fuel user fees, the state tax agency said.
