The Louisiana Department of Revenue has provided a one-month extension for sales tax returns and certain excise tax returns that were due Friday to assist businesses affected by the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Businesses will have until May 20 to file and pay their sales tax, wine excise and beer taxes for February that were due Friday, the department announced Thursday in Revenue Information Bulletin 20-008. The department will waive delinquency penalties and compromise interest for the taxes during the extension period, the bulletin said.

The extensions were offered to provide tax relief in response to the public health emergency caused by the COVID-19 outbreak, according to the bulletin.
