Pennsylvania will extend the deadline for filing and payment of income taxes from April 15 to July 15 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the state Department of Revenue has said.

The move mirrors the federal extension of deadlines for filing and paying federal income taxes, the department said in Saturday. The department added it had extended the deadlines for taxpayers who make quarterly estimated personal income tax payments for the first and second quarters of 2020 as well. Estimated payments for the first and second quarters will be due July 15, the department said.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin announced Friday that the 2019 tax return filing deadline for individuals and businesses would be moved from April 15 to July 15 in light of the global spead of the novel coronavirus, which causes COVID-19. Mnuchin, who had said earlier in the week that the Internal Revenue Service would extend the payment deadline, but not the return filing deadline, to July 15, made the announcement after lawmakers pressed the administration to extend the filing deadline as well.
