Louisiana will provide automatic filing and payment extensions for income tax, franchise tax and individual use tax returns in response to the novel coronavirus, the state Department of Revenue announced Monday.

The state's April 15 and May 15 deadlines for partnership, individual, fiduciary and corporation income tax and franchise tax returns have been extended to July 15, the department said in Revenue Information Bulletin 20-009. The May 15 deadline for the individual consumer use tax return has also been extended, according to the bulletin.

No penalties or interest will be assessed on returns and payments that are received by the new deadline, the department said.

Louisiana has joined a host of states that have extended their tax return deadlines as the COVID-19 pandemic has swept across the nation. As of Monday, Louisiana had 1,172 reported COVID-19 cases, with 34 deaths attributable to the diseased caused by the virus, according to the state Department of Health.
