Iowa Gov. Delays Unemployment Tax Deadline Due To COVID-19

Iowa will delay quarterly unemployment tax payments owed by small employers from April 30 to July 31, the governor has announced in response to economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a statement issued Monday, Gov. Kim Reynolds said businesses with 50 or fewer employees, an estimated 72,000 employers statewide, could pay their first-quarter unemployment tax by the end of the second quarter.

Qualifying businesses must have made all prior quarterly payments and file reports by April 24, Reynolds said, adding that first-quarter payments made in the second quarter will not accrue interest or penalties.

The effort is the latest to offset the economic impact of the novel coronavirus and the public health measures taken in response to the virus, which causes the respiratory disease COVID-19.
