The New York City Department of Finance would be authorized to extend the application deadline for certain real property tax abatement programs in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, under a bill recently introduced in the state Senate.

S.B. 8122, which was introduced Monday by state Sen. Leroy Comrie, D-Queens, would authorize New York City's Finance Department to extend the application renewal and filing deadline from March 15 to June 15 for certain real property tax abatement programs.

Filing extensions would be allowed for the senior citizen homeowner's exemption, the senior citizen rent increase exemption, the disabled homeowners' exemption, the disabled rent increase exemption, the alternative veterans tax exemption and the clergy exemption.
