Georgia will extend the deadline for filing and paying income tax in line with the federal government in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the state Department of Revenue said in a news release Wednesday.

The news release came after Republican Gov. Brian Kemp announced Monday that the state deadline for filing and payments will be extended to July 15. Penalties or interest will not be applied to payments filed before the new deadline, the department's release said.
